Manga Drawing with Aurora Foo (ages 10-18)

Children interested in animation and comic style art have an opportunity to develop their creativity with a teacher passionate about visual storytelling.
Accomplished in the Japanese style of drawing known as Manga, Aurora Foo shows students how to create compelling illustrated stories in a fun and focused class that explores narrative design processes. She guides students in using pencil and watercolour to define character and setting, while demonstrating how they can incorporate atmosphere, tension, drama and humour into their artwork.
This class does use online course materials. A device to login to course materials is preferred eg. iPad, tablet, laptop, mobile etc. (WiFi available) Students can still join if they do not have a device.

Techniques and Details (all levels) with William Ritchie

William’s class is an “open” art class: paint in oil, acrylic, watercolour or gouache. This class is focused at details and techniques. Students are encouraged to tap into William’s extensive knowledge and learn from his example by identifying unique characteristics in subjects and representing them as realistically as possible. This class is suitable for all student from beginner’s to advanced.

Pastel Drawing (ages 9-18) with Jim Reilly
Wednesday - 4pm to 5:30pm
OCT 8 to DECEMBER 3, 2025.

In this class students will be able to learn and understand how to use chalk pastels. They are able to bring reference photos or choose images from the many books we provide in our classroom.

Impressionist Landscape Acrylic Painting with Jennifer Seagrave (beginners/intermediate)
Saturday 10am to 12pm
NOV 8 - DEC 6, 2025.
5 Weeks | $150
Do you admire the work of Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir or Edgar Degas? Do you want to learn to paint in the colourful style of the Impressionists? This 5 week course is suitable for beginners or those wishing to refresh their understanding of this whimsical Modern Art Movement.
Each week you will build your knowledge and skills to self-assess your paintings.
The program will operate as follows:
Week 1: Introduction to Impressionism & sketch composition onto canvas
Week 2: Introduction to acrylic painting & underpainting
Week 3: Introduction to broken colour technique - shadows
Week 4: Continue broken colour technique - mid tones
Week 5: Continue broken colour technique - highlights + exposure to varnish procedures

Drawing Class with Antoniette Preston (All levels)
Wednesday - 10am to 12pm
OCT 29 to DEC 3, 2025.
6 Weeks | $180
In this class, we will begin with the fundamentals and progress step by step through the process of creating a realistic tiger portrait. Using a reference image, I will guide you through how to accurately transfer the image onto pastelmat paper.
Working together, we will use Polychromos and Derwent pencils to build up layers and develop a lifelike fur texture. You will learn techniques for creating depth, shadow, and subtle colour variation to achieve a photorealistic efect.
Whether you're a beginner or looking to refne your skills, this class will ofer practical tips and techniques that you can apply to future artwork. Most importantly, we’ll enjoy the creative process and have fun while doing it!

Portrait Drawing with Carolyn Large
Thursday - 1pm to 3pm
OCT 9 to NOV 6, 2025.
5 Weeks | $150
At the completion of this class, you will demonstrate the ability to produce a successful, realistic portrait using graphite pencil/charcoal. You will create a series of drawings that explore how to measure proportion and block in basic shapes using line. You will have learnt how to draw form using descriptive line, how to analyse lighting on the face and how to create facial structure with tone
• Study the general proportions of the human head.
• Learn a systematic method to create the head’s general proportions and block in the structure of the head using construction lines.
• Study methods for drawing facial features i.e. eyes, nose and lips using graphite or charcoal pencil to create line and tone.
• Investigate how to create a charcoal portrait on a grey toned paper, using erasers to establish highlights and light tones.

Drawing Foundations with Carolyn Large
Friday - 1pm to 3pm

5 Weeks | $150
In this class we explore the core principles of successful drawing – Shape, Light, Tone and Proportion.
The aim of the class is to develop your ability to produce successful representational drawings using graphite pencil and/or charcoal. Fun and challenging exercises using both still life images and props will help to develop their skills and personal style.
• Identify shapes in objects
• Determine the light source on objects and how it creates different tones
• Ways to create tone
• Methods to achieve correct proportions in a drawing with multiple objects.
